Children’s Hearings Scotland and East Renfrewshire’s Area Support Team (AST) are looking to appoint a Panel Practice Advisor (PPA) to help lead and support East Renfrewshire’s Children’s Panel members.

The Children’s Hearings System is Scotland’s unique care and justice system for children and young people in need of care, protection and support. Children’s Panel members are lay tribunal members who volunteer to sit on children’s hearings.

There are 22 Area Support Teams across Scotland playing a critical role in the delivery and administration of the Children’s Panel. These ASTs act on behalf of the National Convener in recruiting, supporting and monitoring panel members.

PPAs play a critical role within ASTs. They are responsible for selecting and recommending panel members for appointment to the National Convener. They also regularly observe panel member practice within children’s hearings and contribute to practice development within their local area.

The position is voluntary with reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed. PPAs will be asked to commit to the equivalent of approximately two days per month.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to, and understanding of the ethos, values and principles of the Children’s Hearings System as well as an understanding of the role of panel members.
