TWO men have appeared in court in connection with the death of southside labourer William McKeeney.
Asif Rehman (20) and Adil Ishaq (19) have been charged with murdering Mr McKeeney in Pollokshields. The victim was attacked on Melville Street at about 12.40am on January 15.
Mr McKeeney (57) was taken by ambulance to the Victoria infirmary, where he died from injuries a short time later.
The two accused appeared at Glasgow sheriff court on Friday (January 20), where they made no plea or declaration.
The case was continued and both will appear again tomorrow (Friday).
In another incident, a man has been hospitalised after being hit by a car on Victoria Road.
The incident occurred on Friday around 9.25pm, and according to police the 38-year-old sustained serious injuries after being struck by a Vauxhall Astra on the southside street.
He was taken by ambulance to the Victoria Infirmary and a spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police confirmed that he has remained there since, in a stable condition.
She added that a 27-year-old man had been reported to the procurator fiscal for an alleged road traffic offence in connection with the incident.
Officers have also issued an appeal for information on an elderly lady who died at her Shawlands home.
Elizabeth Anderson (87) was found dead at the property on Shawhill Road on January 11.
A police spokesman has said that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, but that officers have been unable to trace any of Ms Anderson’s relatives.
She is known to have had a brother, William, and a twin sister, Catherine, both of whom have also passed away.
But it is also believed she had friends in the Gourock area, and anyone who knew Ms Anderson or has any further information is asked to contact constable Belinda Rafferty on 532 5468.
