Police hunt man who tried to snatch child

A DRIVER attempted to entice an 8-year-old girl into his car in the southside.

The girl was playing in Kingsdale Avenue, in King’s Park, on Sunday evening around 8.15pm when the car approached her and a hooded man spoke to her and tried to get her to enter the vehicle.

The girl ran away and the man drove off in the direction of Aitkenhead Road.

The suspect drove a five-door, medium-sized dark-coloured car.

Detective constable Lesley Reid of Cathcart police police is appealing for witnesses.

She said: “The man who spoke to this child was wearing a hooded top with the hood up.

“Fortunately the girl refused to go with this male and ran for help.

“I would urge anyone who was in the King’s Park area and saw what has been described as a five-door, medium-sized family car, dark in colour – possibly a Toyota Avensis or similar vehicle – driving around the area to come forward.

“It is important that we trace the man who put this child in a state of fear and alarm.

“I would like to reassure members of the public, particularly parents of young children, that everything possible is being done to trace the individual involved.

“Extra patrols will be in the area and anyone who has concerns is encouraged to speak to the officers.

“Any perswon with information is asked to contact the CID at Cathcart police office on 0141 532 5040”.
