Man jailed for death

A MAN has been sentenced to a minimum of 14 years in prison for murdering his brother-in-law.

James Strachan (54) strangled Malcolm MacPhee (55) during a struggle at the victim’s Langside home in June 2010.

The high court in Glasgow heard that Strachan had attacked a woman – who cannot be named for legal reasons – staying with Mr MacPhee on Braemar Street.

The woman escaped to a neighbour’s house after calling Mr MacPhee, for help.She returned to find both men on the floor. The court heard Mr MacPhee – a father of three – had died as a result of compression of the neck.
