Police Scotland is appealing for information after an elderly man was assaulted in Govan on Saturday, May 21.

Around 5.30pm, the 84 year old man alighted from the number 26 bus on Golspie Street and was approached by two men who then brutally attacked him.

The two men, who were wearing dark clothing, then ran off in a southerly direction along Golspie Street.

The victim was assisted by members of the public who called an ambulance for him. The man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to his facial injuries.

Detective Constable Gordon Reid from Govan CID said: “This was a disgusting and cowardly attack on an elderly man who had been out enjoying an afternoon with his friends.

“In particular I would like to speak to a man who was seen getting off the bus after the victim, which had been travelling west from Govan Road. He is described as white, between 35 and 40 years old, with short dark hair and glasses. He was wearing a brown jacket, dark trousers, and was carrying shopping bags.

“I would also like to speak to the members of the public who went to the victim’s aid as they may have information that could assist with our enquiries.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Govan CID on 101. Alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
