Car break-ins continue

CARS across East Renfrewshire continue to be targeted by thieves as police report five more incidents this week.

Following a spate of thefts from cars thought to have been left unlocked, a further five incidents have been recorded between Sunday night and Monday morning.

The first three took place on Robslee Road, Ravenscliff Drive and Orchard Park Avenue, all in Giffnock, and property was stolen from each, including a sports bag from a Honda at the second incident.

A further two reports came from Newton Mearns on the same dates, the first on Maple Avenue – with thieves smashing a window this time to gain entry to an Audi, making off with property on display in the back seat – and the second at Larchfield Court, this time with a Mercedes.

Sergeant Colin Shearer, of Giffnock police station, told The Extra: “We are continuing to patrol the area but we ask that the public do everything they can to prevent crimes like this from occurring – by not leaving valuables on display and by ensuring that their doors are locked before going to bed at night”.
