Parents and carers across East Renfrewshire are being encouraged to take advantage of advice on children’s car seats at a special event later this month.

The council is supporting the Road Safety Scotland-backed safety campaign which offers residents the chance to have their child’s car seat checked by a qualified expert at a drop-in clinic.

The car seat clinic is being held at Morrisons, on Fenwick Road in Giffnock, on Wednesday, September 28 from 11am-4pm.

Research carried out in 2015 indicated that 6 out of 10 car seats in Scotland were incorrectly fitted or incompatible with the child or car.

East Ren transportation officer Greg Brown said: “Following the success of last year’s clinic and the high proportion of car seats still being incorrectly fitted, it is great to see the team returning to provide this expert advice. It will give parents, guardians and carers the chance to take five minutes of their time when they are along doing their shopping to get advice and information which could potentially save a child’s life.”
