CLARKSTON residents have had to make do without a post office for almost a month following the resignation of the subpostmistress.
A Post Office Ltd spokeswoman said:” Post Office Ltd would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience as a result of this unavoidable temporary closure.
“Post Office Ltd is committed to providing post office services in Clarkston and would like to assure our customers that every effort is being made to restore a service as soon as possible.
“We had no option but to temporarily close Clarkston post office branch on 3 May”.
The nearest post offices for people are at 737 Clarkston Road in Netherlee, 221 Fenwick Road and Broomvale post office on 269 Mearns Road in Newton Mearns.
Local resident Eric Bass (78) thinks the situation is “beyond a joke”.
He told The Extra: “I have taken this to age concern and the local MSP and I hope they do something about this.
“Both post offices are outside our postal code, what if people have disabilities, how are they meant to go elsewhere. “The effects are being felt in Netherlee post office — it’s tiny there and now it has to deal with double the traffic.
“I just hope they can sort it out by Christmas, surely it doesn’t take this long to find a replacement”.
