The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns has been applauded by visitors and professionals for their support of Dementia Awareness Week.

The aim of the week is to help people understand why friendship and kindness are more important than ever when you have dementia.

It also allows the sharing of information on what can be done to support friends, family and others in our communities who are living with dementia.

On Tuesday last week East Renfrewshire Dementia advisors were in the mall providing information on the condition and the impact it has on people and their families.

Michelle McCabe, Centre Manager said: “The Avenue is dedicated to supporting community initiatives, including being a dementia friendly centre.

Richard Leckerman from Alzheimer Scotland said: “To support the East Renfrewshire community in becoming more dementia friendly, Alzheimer Scotland were pleased to work with The Avenue to raise awareness of this debilitating condition.”
