AN EVENT is being held to highlight the work that carers do for the community.
Carers are people of any age who look after and provide support for family, friends or neighbours who are, ill, frail, disabled or have mental health issues or substance misuse.
They are people who are dedicated to helping others and thereby giving their communities a boost.
The launch evening is taking place in Eastwood House at Eastwood Park between 7pm and 9pm this Thursday.
Those attending will heart about East Renfrewshire council’s new carers strategy and discuss how they can actively influence local and national decisions which affect the unpaid carer.
This strategy will look at services for carers over the next five years.
A number of groups that champion the needs of carers are working together to ensure carers have the opportunity to be actively involved in the development of the strategy.
It is hoped that through consultation, there will be a realistic response to the day-to-day needs of carers and this will continue to be responsive through the coming five years.
This is the main inspiration in creating a carers forum which will become the primary local group the East Ren council and other partners will engage with for the delivery of services for carers.
This forum, though led by East Renfrewshire Carers’ Centre, will be open to any carers living in East Ren regardless of whether they are known to any carers organisation or not.
