A SOUTHSIDE man has won the accolade Scotland’s Modern Apprentice of the Year.

Robert Tosh (22), from Crookston, picked up the gong at Scotland’s Modern Apprenticeship Awards on Wednesday.

He also won the Construction and Production Apprentice of the Year category on the night.

Robert works for BAE Systems Maritime Naval Ships and earlier this year he was made lead wengineer.

He is also a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) ambassador and spends time promoting engineering to the young people he hopes will constitute the next era of engineers.

Brian Humphrey, of the event’s sponsor Semta, said of all winners: “The awards are about inspiration and celebrating success, recognising dedication, commitment and hard work too.

“All the finalists have shown these things.”
