MANY may recognise Sam Shepard more for his acting, but he is also a recognised and respected playwright.

True West is his tale of sibling rivalry set in the mother’s house of two brothers who rubbed each other up the wrong way constantly.

Alex Ferns and Eugene O’Hare play Austin and Lee.

Austin is a playwright housesitting for his mother while finishing the draft of a new screenplay.

But when his older brother shows up, unannounced, sparks fly.

Shepard takes a studied look at the fragility of the American Dream.

True West is playing at the Citizens Theatre until Saturday.

Tickets cost between £12 and £19.50.
