Bogus taxi driver found guilty of sex assaults

A MAN has been found guilty of two sex assaults on women in the southside.

Sajjad Hussain (42) posed as a private hire driver when he picked up the women in different parts of the city.

In the first attack, a woman, believing he was a taxi driver, got into his car on Sauchiehall Street outside a casino.

The 23-year-old victim told the court that she thought the vehicle was a “private hire looking car” which was parked outside the club at 6am last July.

But when the woman reached her destination in Tradeston, he launched an attack on her.

The woman pushed him off and threw the money at him before escaping.

In the next incident, on November 5 last year, Hussain picked up a 39-year-old woman on Battlefield Road.

Thinking it was a car her friend had phoned for her, she got in to the vehicle.

She told the court that Hussain began groping her leg and other parts of her body.

When the car stopped at traffic lights, she managed to get out and ran to inform the police.

Hussain, who is already on the Sex Offender’s Register, had been found guilty previously for a similar offence.

Sentence has been deferred by Sheriff Sam Cathcart until later this year for background reports.
