A Giffnock man who undertook a 600 mile cycle to raise awareness of mental health issues has received an award from his NHS 24 colleagues.

Tony McLaren, national coordinator for Breathing Space, was one of five staff members at NHS 24’s Cardonald contact centre to be presented with a Volunteer Award by chief executive John Turner.

The 54-year-old — who competed the cycle from Fort William to Glasgow, taking in support centres along the way to highlight the support available — said: “The simple message we wanted to take across Scotland was that mental health is everyone’s business.”
