A sprinkle of Stardust

LEGENDARY rock ‘n’ roller Alvin Stardust is dusting down the leather jacket for a one-off, intimate gig at Eastwood Park Theatre.

The Godfather of glam rock is in town thanks to southsider Caroline McFarlan, who organises his Scottish gigs.

Caroline met the glam rocker in 2003, when he played her charity gig Blast from the Past at the Clyde Auditorium. The pair have since worked their way across the country, from the borders to the outer reaches of Skye — but a show on Caroline’s doorstep is a big moment.

She told The Extra: “It’s just a fantastic night out, whether you’re a teenager who loves rock ‘n’ roll or a gran like myself.

“It’s a real privilege to bring this show to the place where I was born and brought up.”

The 70s rocker will be performing his own classics, as well as favourites from 50s, 60s and 70s — the music which has influenced him throughout his career.

It’s safe to say that Buddy Holly will feature high on that list — as a youngster, the singer caught the star’s attention outside a gig he couldn’t get a ticket for and ended up singing with him in his dressing room.

And, after appearing in venues big and small, it seems the man is back to just that — performing up close and personal, this time with a (no doubt enthusiastic) Eastwood audience.

Tickets for tomorrow’s (Saturday) show are £12 — call 577 4956 or visit www.eastwoodparktheatre.co.uk/boxoffice.
