A one-off pool club on the southside is breaking the mould when it comes to the members it caters for.

Since starting in the summer of 2016, the club is aimed at people who have additional support needs and their carers.

It is based in the Ball Room Pool and Snooker Club in Battlefield who support the club by allowing it to meet there on a weekly basis.

Membership at the club is free to all students with pool tables costing just 50p a game. The club also offers young adults the chance to take part in table tennis, darts and a monthly disco night provided by the local Good Sounds DJ Hire.

The weekly sessions are overseen by volunteer Scott Dunbar who started the club last year after realising there was a need locally for such a facility.

He told The Extra: “The club gives young adults with additional support needs a local outlet to come along socialise and meet new friends through the game of pool. At present we have around 25 young people who turn up each week, but we are always looking for new members to expand the club.

This year some of the parents of our club members are organising a fundraising evening to let us expand our services.”

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or a member contact the club via Facebook or through The Ball Room, Battlefield on 0141 636 1944.
