MUSIC lovers packed into Sherbrooke St Gilbert church recently for a performance of Magnificat proportions.
The event, on April 21, was a first-time community collaboration between Eastwood Choral Singers and East Renfrewshire Schools Symphony Orchestra.
The two joined forces to present Rutter’s Magnificat – and according to choir member Gillian Bain, the Pollokshields church was packed to capacity.
She told The Extra: “The concert was a roaring success.
“The young people played like professionals under the baton of conductor Gerry Docherty and the choir rose to the occasion with conductor Alan Tavener. The performance was supported by soloist Caroline Dickov and organist David Hamilton.
“Eastwood Choral Singers hope this will be the first of many such community events – it was indeed a magnificent Magnificat.”
The group’s next venture is Come and Sing Choral Classics – a chance for anyone interested to take their place among the choir.
The event takes place on May 18, and registration forms are available at the Eastwood Choral Society website.
