HILLPARK secondary pupils felt the power as they welcomed an inspirational visitor recently.
The school was visited by strongman Jon Pritikin, who shared his story about overcoming a severe learning disability and school bullies to appear in the 2009 and 2010 Guinness Book of World Records.
Jon – who gained a world record by rolling a frying pan as easily as a newspaper – performed amazing feats of strength for S1 and S2 pupils, including ripping a phone book in half, breaking a baseball bat in two and bending a steel bar with his teeth.
But it was his speech after, detailing his diagnosis, problems at school and teachers who said he would never amount to anything, which left an impression on the audience, and one S1 pupil commented: “I really appreciated Jon coming to our school to share his story. It took a lot, and it brought tears to my eyes. He is a hero.”
