CHILDREN with visual impairments helped charity Visibility celebrate its 150th anniversary in King's Park.

The youngsters from Hazelwood and Darnley schools enjoyed the sun as they took part in a range of garden-related activities.

The pupils handled exotic animals from Queen's Park glasshouses and took part in posie making.

And they also enjoyed
a picnic before helping cut the birthday cake donated by Gregg's the bakers.

Liz Anderton, chairwoman of Visibility, said: "It was a wonderful day and I was pleased to see the children enjoy themselves.

"It was a beautiful day for a fantastic event, celebrating the hard work of the charity.

"The council have done the flower bed very nicely and have been very supportive to us".

The park was chosen as it is the location where the Visibility logo and name has been recreated by Glasgow city council with plants in the special flower bed.

The tribute will remain there throughout the summer.

Around 40 children gathered there to mark the milestone and Hazelwood headteacher Monica McGeever said: "It was a great day and the pupils had a great time.

"It wasn't just a picnic as they were able to take part in a host of other activities.

"It was also an opportunity for them to meet other children from outwith the school also with visual impairments.

"We work closely with the charity and congratulate them on the 150th birthday."

Jill MacRae from the charity thanked those who helped make the event a success.

She said: "Thanks to the support of the B&Q Darnley store, every child took home a packet of cress seeds, donated by Suttons, to have a go at growing their own food at home.

"Our appreciation goes to Gregg's for donating the cake and to the city council for helping us co-ordinate the activities."

Visibility's birthday events continue in September when the charity plans to have 150 people taking part in the Great Scottish Run.

All abilities are welcome and places are still available. To book call 332 4632.
