Bully Wee title chase slip-up

Clyde 1 Montrose 1Scottish League Two

A late strike by Montrose’s Scott Johnston on Saturday meant Clyde suffered a setback in their promotion bid.

The visitor’s goal came in the last ten minutes of the game and saw The Gable Endies take away a share of the points.

Bully Wee boss Jim Duffy replaced Ross McKinnon and pat Scullion with Scott Ferguson and Stef McCluskey.

Clyde enjoyed the best of the early stages and Stuart McColm had a great chance to score when he was put through on the ‘keeper, but Stuart McKenzie made a good stop.

Stefan McCluskey broke the deadlock in 31 minutes, when a long ball forward by Ferguson was missed by the Montrose defence and McCluskey finished well.

For most of the second half Clyde looked to be in control of the match but they couldn’t find a second goal. Ferguson wasn’t able to direct a volley on target and Brian McQueen’s header also drifted past the post.

With less than ten minutes left on the clock, Montrose made a rare attack on the Broadwood side’s goal. The Clyde defence failed to deal with a high ball into the box and Scott Johnston was in the right position to beat Jamie Barclay from the edge of the box.

That left Clyde with little time to find a winner and a disappointing full-time scoreline of 1-1 was confirmed.
