Further engineering works for Cumbernauld line

Due to ongoing electrification works buses will replace trains between Glasgow Queen Street and Cumbernauld over the next two weekends – Saturday March 8 / Sunday March 9 and Saturday March 15 / Sunday March 16.

The £80m project to electrify the Cumbernauld line is due for completion this spring and is a major investment in Glasgow’s rail network.

The scheme will see over 50km of track electrified, the construction of a new station building at Cumbernauld, the lengthening the station’s platforms and the construction of a turnback facility at Springburn.

Train services will be replaced by buses between Glasgow Queen Street and Cumbernauld / Falkirk Grahamston, calling at all intermediate stations, on the above dates.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “We understand the impact these works will have on some passengers and apologise for any inconvenience caused by these additional closures.

“The Cumbernauld electrification project is the first-phase of a £650m programme of electrification across the Central Belt and represents a significant long-term enhancement of the line.”

A ScotRail spokeswoman said: “Buses will depart stations at normal train times, but please allow longer for your journey.”
