THE king is back in the building – or, someone who looks a lot like him, anyway.
Here at Extra Weekend, we’re feeling nostalgic for hip-swivelling rock ‘n’ roll legend that is Elvis.
Last week, we featured a movie marathon night courtesy of the Elvis Presley Film Society – and this week, it’s a live show which pays tribute to the king.
Donning the white jumpsuit for a show at the Theatre Royal (surely the King’s Theatre would have been a better choice?) is Lee Memphis King, one of Europe’s leading impersonators.
Lee’s performance covers Elvis’s 50s rocking and rolling, his dabble with the big screen and his ‘68 comeback, culminating in an expo of the legendary Las Vegas shows.
Our Elvis for the night is backed by a large screen projection show of the man himself – and with accolades galore along the lines of ‘best professional tribute in the world’ (Collingwood festival, 2005), you can bet that he’s perfected his Shake, Rattle and Roll.
One Night of Elvis is on tomorrow (Friday, April 12) at 7.30pm. Tickets £19.50-£21 from 0844 871 7647 or www.atgtickets.com/glasgow.
