Pack of cool cats doing it their way

THANK goodness for tribute acts — well, some anyway.

If you don’t like the original, you’re most certainly not going to like the kiddy-on version.

But there’s not many will say bad things about the Rat Pack.

And not many will know, either, that the original leader of the Rat Pack was Humphrey Bogart or that it was his wife, Lauren Bacall, that named them. For many, the leader was Frank Sinatra whose entourage included Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jnr.

All three were at the top of their profession when they got together at the Sands in Las Vegas to perform top shows.

Now you can have a taste of the magic when Rat Pack Live comes to the Royal Concert Hall.

Richard Shelton sings for Ol’ Blue Eyes, Mark Holliday is your Dino for the evening and Sammy Davis is performed by, bizarrely, a former professional footballer — Jim Whitley.

Highlights of the evening will include My Way, Mr Bojangles and Ain’t That A Kick In The Head.

Rat Pack Live is on tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30pm and tickets cost £24.50 (£22.50 conc), available from the box office on 0141 353 8000.
