The Void make history

SPENDING weeks on end in a small room crammed with equipment might not sound like the best way to spend a summer.

But for The Void, the end result of their debut EP – We'll Make Our History – made it worth the effort.

The band's Mark Morrow (21) told The Extra: "We loaded our gear into a small room and recorded for weeks on end. Sometimes we'd be in there for more than 14 hours at a time and not realise.

"We even forgot to eat".

The weeks of recording, producing and mixing finished with the four-track EP, which will be out on September 7.

Mark added: "We're really proud of the recording and can't wait to release it to the public.

"We have a very particular sound so it's easier to achieve that if we do the work ourselves".

The four-piece first met in school in Edinburgh but now, as students, are split equally between their hometown and Glasgow.

They've toured with the likes of Hundred Reasons, Enter Shikari and the Xcerts, and singles Reunion and Falling Backwards last year brought the band to the attention of DJs including Vic Galloway, Jim Gellatly and Martin Bates.

Mark added: "It feels great to be played on the radio – it's the best feeling when someone else likes your music, especially when they're people who are respected in the industry".

The band will tour with Dundee's Make Sparks next month, stopping by Glasgow University for a Fresher's Week show on September 17.

Mark said: "We've met Make Sparks a couple of times and really enjoy their music – they seem like really cool guys so we can't wait to go travelling with them.

"We like to think of our shows as energetic, loud and interesting.

"We feel it's our job to carry a performance in every way – visually and musically. That's what we're aiming for".

WE'LL Make Our History is out on September 7 in stores and online via iTunes.

The Void play Glasgow University on September 17 at 7pm. Find out more at www.myspace.com/thevoidband.
