Rock at the Kings

FORMER Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallet is ready to shake, rattle and roll all the way back to the fantastic 50s.

Miss Pallet is revelling in her role (ouch!) in Rock Around The Clock at the King's Theatre.

The show recreates the era of Teddy Boys, quiffs, Brylcreem, poodle skirts and blue suede shoes.

Roxanne told Live: "It's my grandparents' era but I am no stranger to the music.

"There was always Chuck Berry, Elvis and Buddy Holly playing in our house when I was younger".

RATC features an all-singing, all-dancing cast of more than 20 performers. The singers, dancers and musicians perform a non- stop hit parade of rock 'n' roll classics that will have fans dancing into the night.

The former Stars in their eyes winner is better known for her recent stint on Dancing on Ice and as a soap star when she played Jo Stiles in Emmerdale in the role that launched her career.

The actress turned down a pop deal when she won her part in long-running Emmerdale but is making up for lost time by singing American classics.

The 27-year-old joined Torvill and Dean on their 25th anniversary Bolero tour and has just completed her first Hollywood film.

She told Live!: "We're living, breathing, eating and sleeping rock 'n' roll at the moment".

But Roxanne didn't always intend to be involved in musicals and this is her first.

She explained: "I wanted to be an actor and that was definitely my focus. But when I was approached for this role and heard the music I just couldn't say no".

This American jukebox sensation has already wowed audiences all over the world and includes music made famous by Buddy Holly, Bill Haley and the Comets, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Elvis Presley, The Platters and Jerry Lee Lewis.

RATC (also a film) which sets the tone for the production charted at number 17 in the British Top 20 on January 7 in 1955. It was the follow up to Bill Haley and the Comets debut disc Shake, Rattle and Roll.

ROCK Around The Clock opens on Tuesday at the King's Theatre and runs until Saturday(7.30pm with a matine on Wednesday and Saturday). Ticket prices start at 11: book on 08448 717648.
