Living in electric dreams

IF YOUR musical tastes run to indie, then the Arches is the place for you on Wednesday.

Enigmatic Glasgow-based duo, Midnight Lion, will play a special hometown gig – their only Scottish date – on February 15, following the release of their new EP Sleeping in the Woods this coming Monday.

The band, who released their debut single All Greatness Stands Firm last summer, create indi pop music which is full of the melodies, huge choruses and dramatic soundscapes akin to the studio pop bands of the 80s such as Depeche Mode, Yazoo or Tears For Fears, yet they maintain an art-house leaning and a depth that evokes the dark, subtle moments of other bands of the era such as Talk Talk.

Lewis Gardner is one half of the band and is responsible for the lads’ production sound, reflecting Glasgow’s progressive musical present as much as it does its past.

Stewart Brock, the lyricist and vocalist, lives in the westend and commutes to the east to lay down his powerful vocals as the pair bounce ideas off each other.

Sleeping in the Woods is a dark, brooding and evocative EP which includes an intensely simmering re-working of Prince’s When Doves Cry.

Doors for the gig open at 7pm and tickets are £6 plus booking fee.
