Bedtime stories

A TALE of defying bedtimes and babysitters to run away to the shows unfolds at Eastwood park theatre next Thursday evening

Birds of Paradise, Scotland's leading theatre company for disabled and able actors, is presenting Clutter Keeps Company.

The narrative tells of a downwardly-mobile family where the father has left and the mother is working long hours at multiple jobs.

The children — brother and sister Stevie and Julie — are left to their own devices at home.

Teen Julie has been left as babysitter but is too busy trying to enter the adult world.

The neglect of the young boy who has Asperger's leads to a big adventure where he ends up heading for the fair that's just arrived in his town.

Director Morven Gregor told Live: "On one level you have the story of a young boy running away from home and his sister trying to find him.

"This is action packed and fun filled with lots of jokes along the way.

"On the other you have a more serious side questioning what roles we play in society".

Clutter Keeps Company is written by westend-based playwright Dave Anderson whose credits include NTS's Black Watch, Be Near Me and Rupture.

Morven added: "The four main actors take on multiple roles, including that of the narrator, and so function as live audio description for the visually impaired.

"Every word spoken is also subtitled (signed) for hearing-impaired audiences.

"We have a great team here and work really well together. Among my favourite scenes is the one at the fairground where Stevie gets himself into trouble.

"Although the trouble isn't as bad as he thinks, he runs away.

"The action is very fast paced but in among there are some poignant moments that make you stop and think about what impact people have on others' lives".

CLUTTER Keeps Company plays Eastwood park theatre next Thursday at 7.30pm. This is the fourth performance in the production's tour before the company heads for appearances in Banchory – and Budapest. For tickets (from 5) call 577 4970.
