A play on Scottish music
LADDIES and lassies of all ages are invited to a final Celtic Connections show with a twist.
The music festival has this year branched into theatre, and its final weekend features the Scots-language debut of The Boy and the Bunnet.
Hailed as the Scottish folk music answer to Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, it’s a family-friendly tale about a wee boy who gets lost in the woods, and faces up to creatures both real and supernatural while finding his way home.
The production is a joint effort by children’s author James Robertson and composer James Ross, originally shown in Gaelic at last year’s Blas festival.
There’s a wealth of homegrown talent in the orchestra, including Ross himself on piano and Gerda Stevenson as narrator. Best of all, families who show up wearing their own bunnets will receive a discount on their group ticket – so dust off the Tam O’Shanters for one last Celtic Connections fling.
