Fancy a walk down the nostalgia path while the head clears. We thought so!

Pleasance St c1956

This week we’re taking you back to Pleasance street from 1956.

The lamp post near the Townshouse has a sign attached pointing to the Police Office behind the hedge on the right which was entered from Shawhill Road.

The elevated pavement on the right probably dates from when the road surface was levelled to accommodate the tramline.

If the footpath had been constructed down to the same level, the cost of shoring up the gardens would have been much greater.

Note the Albion lorry loaded with bags of coal for domestic fires to sell round the houses, with what looks like a ‘prices flag’ seen above the cab over the driver’s window.
