But if you still want the feeling of Jack Frost nipping at your nose, a trip to Glasgow on Ice will put you in the fesitve mood.

George Square has been transformed with a 750-square-metre ice rink at the centre so whether it snows or not, Glasgow will be glittering white.

Although, as senior events organiser Claire McCauley revealed, the weather did stop play when the rink opened.

She told Live: "For our first week, the weather was a nightmare.
"The heavy rain really hampered things and unfortunately the rink was a bit of a wash out.

"But since then, we've been extremely busy.
"It's a lot of work changing the square, but it's definitely worth it.

"The atmosphere is absolutely amazing. It really gets you into the Christmas spirit".

For parents of toddlers, special sessions for two to four year olds on Wednesdays, from noon until 1pm, and Sundays, from 10am to noon, provide a safe space to practice twists and turns.

Glasgow's Lord Provost, Bob Winter, said: "I am not surprised to hear that parents who have grown up with fond memories of visiting George Square at Christmas are keen to share the experience with their little ones and I am delighted we have been able to increase the time available on the rink for toddlers this winter."

But within the square itself, there are a host of other activities as part of Glasgow's Winterfest, for those who don't fancy slipping and sliding around.

Claire added: "This year we have really pushed the other entertainment. We've increased film screenings to twice a week because we had such a big turnout last year.

"And the local band gigs have also been really good fun and well attended.

"It's also the first time we've teamed up with Celtic Connections to provide concerts on a Saturday".

And on Christmas Eve, the Winterfest team has organised events from 2pm until 9.30pm.

Claire said: "The idea is to bring the kids and we have just enough stuff to tire them out, so that they'll go to bed in time for Santa coming when they get home".
