Tinto primary goes green

TINTO primary is flying the flag for the environment.

The school on Nether Auldhouse Road has just been awarded its first green flag, thanks to the hard work of pupils and staff.

To clinch the award, the school’s eco committee established a litter pick management system for everyone to participate in.

Each class also chose to recycle an object of their choice and create a brand new item – meanwhile, some green-fingered pupils put knowledge gained from Mansewood allotments and Urban Roots to good use by tending to the school grounds.

Clerical assistant Carol Shields told The Extra: “Our journey to success has been due to the whole school sharing a commitment to achieving the same goal – congratulations to everyone for their hard work”.

The eco assessor visiting Tinto primary was particularly impressed by a carbon hand and footprint frieze (pictured), which every pupil in the school helped to make.
