SHAWLANDS primary took centre stage at Pollok House last week to perform for Celtic Connections.

The pupils of primary six have been composing their own music and writing a song, with help from musicians involved in the folk festival – and the performance was a chance to show them off to parents and teachers.

Deputy head teacher Alison McGill told The Extra: “We were really delighted to be asked to participate.

“The musicians who were working on the sound composition were amazed at the children’s creativity, and children who haven’t previously shown an interest in learning a musical instrument are now desperate to learn their own song on the guitar or violin”.

Pupil Liam Hughes commented: “It’s been a great opportunity, working with these fantastic musicians. I hope this isn’t the only chance I get to be involved with the Celtic Connections festival”.

Classmate Hibah Mohammed added: “I loved learning to create a song - I can’t get ours out of my head”.
