Cosgrove Care swinging and winning

SUPPORTERS of Cosgrove Care enjoyed a successful swing in aid of the Giffnock charity recently.

The mental health and disability charity – established in 1961 – held its second annual fundraising concert at Eastwood Park Theatre, this year offering up a big band variety show.

Entertainment included music from That Swing Sensation, a performance by actress Pamela Byrne, and dance routines from the Glasgow Swing Dance Society and the Kennedy Cupcakes.

The event raised an estimated £1,600 for the group, and organisers are delighted with the results.

Richard Kaye, the volunteer who organised the big band event, said: “The Swing Sensation were fantastic. They interacted very well with the audience and got everyone singing and clapping along.

“I had been nervous about ticket sales, but that was unfounded as the tickets sold really well and the near-full auditorium had a great atmosphere.

“In fact, because everyone had such a good time for the second year running, I think I’ll become Cosgrove’s resident concert organiser and book another show for this time next year – watch this space”.

Cosgrove’s community fundraiser Nicola Diamond added a thanks to everyone involved.

She told The Extra: “As well as money from great ticket sales, we had a raffle which raised over £300. raising this amount was only possible because so many local businesses and individuals donated such fantastic prizes.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers Linda Davidson and Adele Conn, who really did put a lot of time and effort into getting such great raffle prizes”.

The event will be back next year, and although no details have been finalised, chief executive Walter Hecht hinted that it will be a tribute act to rival last year’s ABBA night.

Staff at Cosgrove Care, meanwhile, has issued another call for volunteers to help with their fundraising events – anyone interested can contact co-ordinator Lauren Jarvis on 620 2500.
