Needing people with drive . . .

THERE is more good news for drivers of more advanced years who wish to help the community.

Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire is looking for drivers to help transport people to and from East Renfrewshire to hospitals and health centres.

Those wishing to join would be part of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP). No prior experience is necessary, though you would have to use your own vehicle.

RSVP already know that the older driver tends to be the more conscientious driver and ideally volunteers are in the 50 plus age range to take people to hospital and surgery appointments right across the East Renfrewshire region.

The group now also runs an assisted shopping project and asks volunteers to support older people in special occasion shopping.

The skills and experience needed are those with a clean driving license for a full five years plus, reliability and ability to work in a one on one situation.

Volunteers will have to fill out an application form, go to an interview, submit references and have a police check.

In return for their time, a mileage allowance will be paid to ensure volunteers are not out of pocket.

More information can be found at volunteerscotland.org.uk.
