CRICKETERS of Greaves Clydesdale won their fourth match in a row in the Lloyds TSB premier league on Saturday — then reached the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
At the top of the performance tree was left-arm spinner Ross Lyons. He celebrated his first national squad call-up for 15 months by taking three crucial wickets in each game to make sure the Titwood team continued its month-long unbeaten run.

Lyons, along with in-form batting club-mate Qasim Sheikh, is in the Scotland squad heading for Bermuda next week, followed by Canada the week after, for two four-day matches in the ICC's Intercontinental Cup series.

Last weekend, batting first against Heriot's in Edinburgh on Saturday, a significant partnership between Clydesdale skipper Kasim Farid (45) and Zulfi Shahid (44) was at the heart of a modest total of 175 for the loss of eight wickets.

But when Heriot's responded, they too found the going tough. Their opening batsman made 70, and was one of Lyons' victims, but the home side fell apart to some superb bowling by Lyons and Harmanjit Singh, who also took three wickets as Clydesdale surged to a 24-run victory that took them two places up the table.

With confidence high, the southsiders travelled to Arbroath on Sunday, and returned with another fine win, this time by 67 runs. Again batting first, the 'Dale total of 225 for eight was set up Sheikh (67) in partnership with the multi-talented all-rounder Zeeshan Bashir (45).

The target proved to be well beyond the Arbroath batsmen, who struggled against the pace bowling of Clydesdale pro Kamran Sajid and the spin of Lyons, each of whom claimed three wickets.

Meanwhile, another generation of Clydesdale youngsters is making its way to the top of the Scottish cricketing tree. On Sunday, the club's under-13s defeated Peebles, while in midweek their under-15s were in action against West of Scotland to reach the final stages of the Scottish Cup being played at Glenalmond this Sunday.
