Cricket: breathing space for Clydesdale

A CENTURY from Kamran Sajid, the Greaves Clydesdale pro from Pakistan, took his side to victory against Uddingston in the Lloyds TSB Scotland premier league on Saturday - and created some clear space above the relegation zone, with only three matches left in the season.
Sajid put in a fine all-round display, including two wickets and a catch, as Clydesdale posted a total of 202 for six, then rattled through the Uddingston side to record a 70-run victory.
Buoyed by this success, Clydesdale then proceeded to the first semi-final of the Murgitroyd national 20/20 Cup at neighbouring Shawholm on Sunday, and reached a commanding position against Dunfermline Knights before heavy rain put paid to any further play.
Only ten overs were completed, as Zulfiqar Shahid led the way with a blazing 40, supported by Harmanjit Singh (24 not out) as Clydesdale reached the half-way point of their innings with 75 on the board, Shahid the only man out.
Poloc will have been pleased with their own league victory on Saturday, when they defeated Ayr by 11 runs in a thrilling, low-scoring match at home.
Having managed to score only 133 all out, the prospects of a win were poor. But some outstanding bowling by veteran left-arm spinner Keith Sheridan (3 for 11) turned the game on its head as Ayr slumped to 122 all out.
