SOUTH African pro Ruan Nel pulled out a top-drawer all-round performance for Weirs to lead them to a stunning victory over Stoneywood-Dyce in Aberdeen on Saturday.
With all but two of Saturday's Lloyds TSB Scotland national league matches written off in the rain, the men from Albert Park trekked north to find play possible, and made the best of their opportunity to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

The host club were sitting pretty at the top of the second division table, and clearly felt the result of the match would be a formality. But Nel had other ideas.

First, he discarded the wicket keeper's gloves and pads to allow himself to bowl. This inspired decision had immediate results as he took the wickets of the top four Aberdonian batsmen, for just nine runs conceded.

Then, after Rod Murray and Richard Young had constrained the Dyce total to just 117 for the loss of eight wickets, Nel stepped in to score a match winning and undefeated 49 to secure a famous six-wicket victory.
They're not out of the woods yet, though, and must play and win both their final games, against Dunfermline and Prestwick, to be sure of national league cricket in 2009.
