EXASPERATED villagers are to lose bus services for the second summer in a row.
The B767 Glasgow Road in Waterfoot will close from Floors Road to Brackenrig Crescent between August 4 and 24 so East Renfrewshire council can resurface it.

The news has given Waterfoot residents a sense of déjà vu following similar work last year
between Barlae Avenue and Waterfoot Road.

Pensioner Helen Norrie told The Extra: "This is going to be really inconvenient for people who don't have a car or a computer to shop online. I feel Waterfoot always loses out. This is going to cause big transport problems for pensioners like me.

"The council says the road has to be closed as it's too narrow for temporary traffic lights.

"FirstBus hasn't given us any information about what will happen with the 44 service.

"Last time there was a 40-45 minute wait for a replacement shuttle bus to take people from Mearns Castle school to the village."

John Simcox, secretary of Eaglesham and Waterfoot community council added: "This is a big problem for people living here, as it was before. Waterfoot is being deprived of public transport for up to three weeks."

Responding to criticism an ERC spokesman said: "There is inevitably inconvenience to all road users when we have to close a section of road for essential resurfacing.

"We apologise for that and appreciate the patience of all affected while we make improvements.

"When we close the section of Glasgow Road affected we will ensure that a connecting bus will be made available to minimise the impact on passengers and we will be arranging that with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport."

A FirstBus spokeswoman promised the 44 service would be diverted to ensure passengers still reach their destination.

But she admitted: "We are still to finalise details of what exactly will be put in place on the route."

Last year route 44 buses were diverted to Mearns Castle, where it terminated and a shuttle bus carried passengers to Eaglesham.
