SOUTHSIDE roads have claimed one man's life and another is
critically ill in hospital after traffic accidents this week.
John Crosby (76) of Angus Avenue in Cardonald died on Friday night near to Burnfield Road in Thornliebank.

Police believe the pensioner was crossing Thornliebank Road at about 10.30pm when he appears to have been hit by a car.

Residents living
nearby say accident investigators worked well into the night.

James Mann (81) told The Extra: "The road was closed from Burnfield Road to the Coach House bar, with traffic diverted up Barrmill Street. This went on for quite a few hours.

"On Saturday a few people left flowers at the scene."

Meanwhile, a teenager is in a critical condition at the Southern General after a crash near the Langside railway station on Monday night.

Police say that just before 10pm, the 19-year-old was a passenger in a green Ford Fiesta travelling down the steep hill of Millbrae Road when the driver is believed to have lost control and hit a lamp post.

An eyewitness, who declined to be named, photographed the incident on his mobile phone and told the Extra: "The car came down the hill, hit a parked BMW near Riverside Road then a lampost at Langside station.

"The wreckage looked precarious, although it didn't catch fire.

"I helped pull the boys out of the car and others gave them first aid until the ambulance arrived."

Both the teenager and 20-year-old driver were taken by ambulance to the Victoria Infirmary.

The passenger was later transferred to the Southern General where his condition remains critical.

Police are seeking the occupants of a car which may have swerved to avoid striking the Fiesta on Millbrae bridge.

Sergeant Scott Sutherland said: "We are anxious to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or seen the vehicle prior to the crash.

"We are particularly interested in a motorist who may have had to swerve to avoid the car near Langside Drive."

Roads closed off following the crash included Langside Drive entries to Corrour Road and Tantallon Road.

Police can be contacted on 532 6400.
